I would think, at a minimum, you need a gamecube joystick/controller/whatever? Or do the wii's sticks work for older games? The game I particularly need to know about is "medal of honor rising sun". Thanks.

Yes, Nintendo GameCube games can be played on the Nintendo Wii. NGC games will only work on older Wii consoles. They are the ones that can be set verticlly, and come with a stand. They have a hatch on the top to insert gamecube controllers and gamecube memory cards. The newer ones that can only be placed sideways cannot play gamecube. You will also need gamecube controllers to play, because the wii controllers wont work. You will also need gamecube memory cards. You can see the card settings and games on the wii options, then select the memory, then select gamecube. I suggest get 1st party nintendo brand 251 memory cards. The 1019 tend to get curropted on wii. Also, dont leave the memory in the wii when its off. And try to keep wiiconnect24 or watever, off and turn off standby. Just put in the ngc game in the regular disc slot towards the middle. Just for extra: you sshould buy component cables specially for wii to have better picture on an hdtv.
Happy gaming.
