I finished 1st playing Mario Kart Wii multiplayer, but was 3rd in the results..why?
Could it have anything to do with other users using cheats?
..or maybe some time lag with other players?

Obviously they came in ahead of you. If they are using cheats, what fun is it to win if you are using cheats? If you do a google search, there is a lot of cheats for this particular game. You might want to check them out.

Due to lag, you may have actually been behind players who you thought were behind you based on your screen.
