My PS3 60GB original has 2 problems - are they related and is there a DIY fix ?
1. It has an intermittent problem reading discs (no spinning sound), mainly games but also DVD's and CD's when its really bad, I have used a lens cleaner and seems to fix sometimes but other times even this wont read. 2. When a game does work it can be played for an hour or two then normally the game freezes which means turning PS3 off. I have had the PS3 playing games no problem all day but is very rare. Any help would be great, I have tools to open and replace anything if needed. Thanks Oh the PS3 will run fine when using all other functions like online and downloaded demos. |

If it's having trouble even reading to begin with and then later freezes, then I would definitely say they're related. You would need to have the disc drive fixed or replaced.
You can do this yourself, there are YouTube videos showing how to repair or replace the drive. However, if you need to replace it, be sure to look up the exact model for it so you don't get the wrong one as each PS3 uses a specific model disc drive. You can find them on eBay or possibly other sites, but eBay is your best bet. |
