Mario isn't for 8 year olds, it is for a wide audience, which is why some of the levels are hard and some are easy. I personally started to find it hard around world 4 - it is a challenging game.
I think this is good though to be honest. It makes it last longer. The main reason for the difficulty is that it must be accessable by up to four players, if the game was easy, multiplayer would be way too easy. My tips are to try and get as many power ups as possible (enemies on the map screen). Also, try and find someone to play with - if they're good it'll be easier as you can help eachother. Another great tip is this - in World 1-2 (underground) there is a Starman powerup about half way through in a breakable brick, slightly underground (1:26 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCcQGLjzadU). Grabbing this star and running to the end of the level killing as many enemies as you can (as he tries in the video), can net you around 5 extra lives. Keep restarting after you get the flag at the end and doing this over and over to get loads of lives to help you in later worlds. Hope this helped. |

The trick is to learn how to gauge your jumps. I have a hard time with that especially because Mario slides a bit. And don't try to play with more players because that'll totally screw you over. Everyone will be bumping and falling the whole time. Unless of course the one you're playing with is a pro at it.
Anyway, try to utilize the diff types you find at each level as well. It's why they're found there in the first place. Then you can practice in the first few levels. Try saving Toads. It sorta trains you in how to avoid enemies, since if you get hit you lose the Toad you're carrying. The videos in Peach's Castle help as well. I'm sure they look insanely hard to do but you'd be surprised at what you can learn by watching them and trying to copy them. Also, I'm not sure if you knew, but if you keep losing at a level, there's an option where you can get Luigi to finish the level for you so you can watch how it's done. Then you can copy it and finish it on your own. Ultimately, practice is the key. Lotsa other people here will say the same. Practice. That's how the one's who are good get good. That's why you can own in COD. Now try to own in Mario. Oh, and remember to have fun while doing it. ![]() |
