Default What's the appropriate age to buy children Nintendo Wii?

My kids are 9, 6, 3. Obviously the gaming system will be for the older ones, but I don't know if the wii is more sophistocated, not to mention expensive, and if I should start our with Game Cube or X Box, etc. I just don't like starting at the top of the gift range with kids because then there's nothing left for them to look forward to as they get older.

I own a wii and my four year old can play it with no problem. They make a lot of kid friendly games and it involves a lot of physical activity I highly recommend it.

Ok for children that age I would go with a Game Cube because the X Box has mainly adult/teen games. If you were to get them a Wii I would get it when the oldest child was about 11-12.
Hope that was some help!

I honestly think you should get them the Wii. It's meant for smaller children where as the X-Box is meant for Teens through Adults, as is the PS3. Yeah, you could start them out with a game cube, but what's the point? The Wii isn't the top of the gift range. The X-Box 360 is the next step up, and after that, there's the PS3. You have a ways to go. Plus whatever the following generation of consoles will be. And the Wii is just a device to play the real gifts. The games. Which you can continue to purchase for a long time.

Gamecube. As someone else said, X Box has lots of adult games, and PS2 does too. The next-gen consoles (ex. Wii, XBox 360, PS3) are the "top of the gift range" things you're referring to, and those consoles are projected to be popular through the mid 2010's, according to Wikipedia (can't find the exact location). Gamecube has many games that are fun for the children, and are also safe to play.

If anything, I wouldn't start with the Xbox. The Xbox is mainly made for online-play and has more "mature" games. [mostly ranging from T-M]

I own a Wii, but I'm 16. Even though it looks sophisticated and somewhat difficult to use, it really isn't. If you want you can start out by getting them games such as Wii Play and Wario Ware. These games are directed toward newer owners of the Wii and help them familiarize themselves with the Wii's control types. It's a great system, and a bargain of a price compared to the otehr "next-gen" consoles. Plus you can still use Gamecube games and controlls on it. Hope this helped!

ANY AGE IS GOOD FOR THE WII!!!!!!!!!!!! there are some games (like The Godfather) that r a little over the top 4 their ages, but the Wii is designed for the whole family! (my 4 year old even plays Madden 08!)

Don't buy them any console. That will teach them that they have to work for things. My parents didn't buy me anything, but that tought me to work for stuff.

i would get the wii. but if you want them to still have things on the shelf. make them work in order to get it. and once you buy it only buy game cube games until ALOT of games are out in the wii (prob by christmas) so then you can rest easy that all the games will last long.
