I'm planning on downloading Ocarina of Time from the wii virtual console, but I only have a gamecube controller and not a classic controller. I know that OoT is N64 on the virtual console. Will my gamecube controller work with it, or should I buy a classic controller?

yep it will work just plug it in make sure the numchuks not in the wii mote good buy

Yes it will work. Any game on Virtual console that uses the Classic Controller can also use the Gamecube Controller.
